In certain areas of this country, the extreme poverty has for many years played a part in the decision of youngsters to emigrate towards the degraded outskirts of big cities, and abroad.
In many parts, the condition of women is still dramatically worse than for men. Emargination, limited decision-making power and considerably limited access to work continue to prevail, thus making economic independence impossible. In terms of healthcare, too, structural and cultural shortcomings have severe repercussions on the population, particularly in rural areas, where they lack the basic minimal services.
